SPT, short for “Successful & Practical Talents”, is the core of the talent training system that the University has developed to implement its training objectives and quality requirements for practical foreign language talents.
Under the SPT educating concept, students are expected to succeed in their studies and get a job after three or four years of education and training at the University. The established practice at the University requires that, through the SPT talent training system and development, the student management is integrated into the SPT development.
The SPT development from the perspective of teaching refers to the following two points, namely, the implementation of the “foreign language, major, and overall qualities” of the education model, and the teaching of professional and general skills of the vocational education, whose implementation is based on the training of practical foreign language abilities.
Students are trained to acquire three core abilities, namely, foreign language ability, professional practice ability, and the comprehensive vocational ability.
The students also expected to obtain four certificates, namely, a diploma or degree certificate, a foreign language proficiency test certificate, a vocational qualification certificate, and a general skills certificate.
To meet the implementation of this education model, the University has designed staged accomplishment objectives of the talent training that go together with the model. The education model is made up by annual academic work, quality and ability training requirements which students are expected to meet in three or four years.
By breaking the course structure down into concrete indices, “success” on the part of the students becomes a tangible and reachable goal through hard work.
The SPT development from the perspective of student management refers to the formation of an integrated working mechanism that incorporates the creation of the SPT Class, the SPT Dormitory Room and the selection of the SPT Student.
The combination of talent training with the ideological & political education and student management is in line with the social demands of practical foreign language skills.
SPT development is further enhanced by the orientations put forward by the University in accordance with the needs, and practical placements in the process of talents training.
The creation of the SPT Class is a kind of MBO that organizes all the students of a class to participate in talent training activities, so that they will all meet the requirements of talents training.
The quantitative index system used to assess and evaluate an SPT Class candidate involves the learning style, class style & features, and the results of overall academic performances required by the University.
The creation of the SPT Dormitory Room aims to make a civilized, disciplined, harmonious, and enterprising dormitory, with all dormitory members striving to meet the SPT Dormitory Room requirements of the university. It aims for the success and progress of every dorm members, and even that of every students living in the same dorm building.
It is a new move introduced by the University to conduct ideological and political education in dorms. It is also a move that makes talent training extend from the classrooms to the dormitory rooms, and changes students who passively receive education and participate in management into ones that stress self-management. It helps to make the dormitory room more than a place for rest and relax, but an important place for the overall education as well.
The SPT Student is selected according to the performance a student achieved in terms of the staged objectives of each semester with his or her own efforts. Being an SPT Student is a prerequisite of receiving such honors as an Advanced Class, Advanced Dormitory Room, and Advanced Individual.
The SPT development, with the objectives of achieving success and becoming a talent on the students’ part, has solved a series of problems concerning the gap between teaching and learning, the bringing of the quality of market oriented talents training, and other important qualities concerning talents training
The ideological and political education, conducted through the SPT development, the success-consciousness education, success target guiding, and evaluation of the staged success objectives, plays a good guiding role in inspiring every classroom, every dormitory room, and every student to make progress. Their accomplishment is further enhanced with an all-round educating atmosphere and working environment, where both the individual and collective will become enterprising, successful, talented, and mature.
